Early Alpina’s were faster but less reliable than the later 500T/S. If the Alpina had all the attributes of a good twin it could also suffer overheating and oil supply problems. Some engines lasted for only 10,000 miles, others managed 40,000 miles – burns exhaust valves, breaks camchains and wears out pistons if neglected. Handling was only limited by short-lived, weak swinging arm bearings. Montuic was racer on the road; fast, fun but troublesome.
